Heating, cooling and comfort in the valley
Repairs, replacements, ducts and humidity work for houses in Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake and Millwood.
Furnaces, heat pumps and the January call
Gas furnaces fail at the ignition end more often than anywhere else: a flame sensor, a pressure switch, a limit tripping because airflow has dropped. Heat pumps fail more quietly — a defrost cycle that never completes, or backup heat doing work the compressor should be doing.
Both get measured. Where the fault is a control setting rather than a part, you get told that instead of a quote.
Summers that changed the brief
Plenty of valley houses were built when cooling was an afterthought. Adding it properly is a real project, and there are three honest routes.
- Heat pump on existing ductsWhere a furnace and usable ductwork are already there, this usually replaces most of the heating as well.
- Ductless headsFor houses with no ducts, or where two rooms are the whole problem. Quiet, efficient, visible on the wall.
- Duct work firstWhere the ducts cannot carry the airflow. Slower and more invasive, and sometimes the only honest answer.
- Evaporative coolersStill around here. We service them and say plainly which weeks they will not cope with.
Adding moisture, carefully
A whole-house humidifier is a useful thing in a dry winter and a liability in the wrong house. The limit is the coldest surface indoors: once the air is damper than that surface is warm, the water arrives on the glass and in the wall.
We fit them, service them, and are honest when the answer is a lower setting rather than more equipment.
Where comfort is usually decided
- Crawlspace and attic runsInsulation that has fallen off and joints that have come apart are normal here and cost you every month.
- ReturnsUndersized returns raise static pressure, make the system noisy and reduce what every room gets.
- BalanceDampers set deliberately rather than left where the installer found them.
- ProofAirflow measured before and after, so the change is shown rather than claimed.
