Dry winters, hot summers, one system asked to do both

Heating, cooling and indoor humidity work for Spokane Valley homes and small businesses — measured before it is quoted.

  • Furnaces and heat pumps. Both common here, and they fail differently.
  • Summer matters now. Cooling is no longer optional in this valley.
  • Humidity in winter. Too dry is uncomfortable; too damp is worse.
  • Written prices. After the diagnosis, before the work.

The work

What we are called for

  • No heat in JanuaryIgnition faults, flame sensors, pressure switches and limits tripping on poor airflow — worked through in order rather than swapped.
  • No cooling in JulyCondenser coils, capacitors, charge and airflow. The valley's summers are long enough now to find every weakness.
  • Dry air, or damp windowsBoth are humidity problems and they need opposite answers. Getting that right is the point of our winter humidity page.
  • ReplacementSized from the building, with the ductwork tested before anything is ordered.
Winter humidity

A humidifier is not automatically a good idea

Inland Northwest winters are dry, and adding moisture indoors can make a house noticeably more comfortable. Add too much, or add it to a house with cold windows and thin insulation, and you get condensation, frost on the glass and moisture where nobody wants it.

The check works out a sensible indoor target from the outdoor temperature and what your windows are, and says when a humidifier is the wrong answer.

Four steps, in this order

  1. What you have noticedWhen it started, what changed just before, and what it does now.
  2. MeasurementTemperatures, pressures, airflow, combustion where it applies.
  3. The priceIn writing, with the alternatives where there is more than one honest route.
  4. What we leave behindSettings recorded, and anything that needs attention later written down.

Questions

Before you call

Should I fit a whole-house humidifier?

Often yes in an Inland Northwest winter, but the setting matters more than the equipment. Too much moisture puts water on the coldest surface in the house. Our winter humidity check gives you the ceiling your own house can carry.

Windows fog up every cold morning. What is wrong?

Usually humidity that is too high for the glass temperature, sometimes a humidifier left on a summer setting. If the glass fogs with the humidifier off, the moisture is coming from somewhere else and that is what to find.

Do heat pumps work here in winter?

Yes, for most of it. What matters is when the backup heat is allowed to come on and how defrost behaves — badly configured, a heat pump runs the expensive heat far more than it needs to.

Can cooling be added to an older valley house?

Usually, by one of three routes: a heat pump on the existing ducts, ductless heads, or duct work first. Which one is honest depends on what the ducts can actually carry, so we measure before quoting.

Do you work on small commercial buildings?

Yes — packaged units, splits and gas unit heaters for shops, offices, clinics and light industrial units, with maintenance twice a year written up per unit.

Which areas do you cover?
